Certificates Evening

A Level and GCSE students were commended for showing determination, enthusiasm and optimism at the annual Carlton le Willows Certificates Evening last night.

All students were invited to collect their exam certificates at a special presentation evening which also recognises and celebrates some outstanding individual performances.

Guest speaker Sarah Keyworth – a former Academy student – delighted the audience as she spoke of her determination to succeed as a comedienne.

Character Counts Sports Awards

Family and friends joined staff and students for a night of celebration at the Carlton le Willows Sports Personality of the Year Awards this week.

This annual event pays tribute to all those students who excel at sport – both in and out of school – and is testament to how good character can help with sports development.

Among awards presented were those for Enthusiasm, Professionalism, Determination, Optimism and Purpose.

Overall Sports Personality of the Year Award was given to medal winning swimmer Will Gayne, who already has four qualifying times for Olympic trials next year.

Year 12 Will was praised not only for his sporting success but also for his ‘good character’, described as determined and courageous; humble, yet resilient; striving relentlessly for personal excellence, but also a real team player.

Character education visit

IMG_0130

STAFF and students at Carlton le Willows have been showcasing the Academy’s character education programme during a visit by a high profile educational expert.

Bonnie Wang, Director of Projects at London-based Future Academies, spent the day with senior leaders, staff and students learning more about how the Academy has embedded Character Counts throughout the school curriculum.

The visit follows a request by Lord Nash, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Schools, who asked to find out more about how Carlton le Willows has introduced character education into school life and the curriculum.

In 2006 Lord Nash set up the social enterprise Future, designed to support young people by working with other small charities and sponsoring academies, including Pimlico and Millbank Primary Academies.
