Olympian tries out table tennis centre

ENGLAND number 1 and double Olympian table tennis player Paul Drinkhall gave Academy and primary school students a glimpse into life as a professional sportsman during a training session in Carlton le Willows table tennis centre.

World Championship medallist Paul, who is currently ranked 40 in the table tennis world rankings, was taking part in a mid-week training session with GB national team coach Alan Cooke at the purpose built centre.

Some of the Academy’s own table tennis players got the chance to sit and watch the training session, which Paul was undertaking ahead of the table tennis National Championships to be held in Nottingham in March.

And pupils from Burton Joyce, Willow Farm and St Peter’s Primary Schools, who were invited down to watch the champion in action, showed great enthusiasm and gratitude when they got the chance to hit a few balls with the elite sportsman.
